Subject: | SURE System - former HB 2351 |
In the near future I will be re-introducing HB 2351 from last session. This legislation will allow a 17-year-old elector to register and vote in a primary if the elector will be at least eighteen (18) years old by the date of the corresponding general or municipal election. The legislation would also add provisions requiring the Statewide Uniform Registry of Electors (SURE) to:
This legislation also clarifies that 17-year-old voters are not eligible to vote in a special election that occurs the same day as the primary or for any referendum. Also clarifies that registered 17-year-olds are eligible to sign and circulate nomination petitions. In the past, similar legislation has had bi-partisan support.
