Subject: | Co-Sponsor-Opposing International Olympic Committee Wrestling Decision |
In the coming weeks, I intend to introduce a House Resolution opposing the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) decision to eliminate wrestling from the 2020 Summer Olympic Games and encourage the IOC to reverse its decision. Pennsylvania is nationally renowned for its wrestling tradition. Pennsylvania is a nation leader in amateur wrestling boasting many NCAA All-Americans, National Champions, and Olympians. Wrestling is recognized as one of the world’s oldest competitive sports. Over 280,000 high school students in the United States alone participated in wrestling in 2012. Wrestling represents the determination and hard work it takes to succeed in life and sports. As a wrestling enthusiast, I find this to be an important aspect of our Olympics. If you are interested in co-sponsoring or have any questions, please contact Alycia Laureti via e-mail at alaureti@pahouse.net or via phone at 772-2283. |
