Subject: | Amending the Tax Code-PIT and SUT Suspension (Former HB 1032) |
In the near future, I intend to introduce legislation to amend the Tax Reform Code further providing for the imposition of sales and use tax and the imposition of personal income tax. This legislation would suspend the collection of these taxes for every day after the budget deadline of June the 30th until a budget is enacted. Repeatedly the budget deadline has been missed impacting the citizens of this Commonwealth in a negative manner. I believe by suspending revenue collection it will give some incentive to the legislature and the Governor to pass a budget in a timely manner as this will impact programs that we are all supportive of, thereby giving us a vested interest in meeting the deadline. I believe it is fundamentally unfair to continue collecting revenue for a government that cannot function and meet its obligations.
