Subject: | Gubernatorial Appointments (Former HB 1061) |
In the near future, I intend to introduce legislation amending Title 65 (Public Officers) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes, further providing, in ethical standards and financial disclosure, for restricted activities. This legislation would apply to the following; an executive-level State employee, a member elected to the Senate or the House of Representatives. It would provide that any individual falling under those categories would be ineligible for a one year period after leaving employment or office to receive an appointment by the Governor which is subject to the approval of the Senate. I believe that allowing for this one year period will ensure that individuals are appointed based upon their merit and not due to political connections or favors. This is consistent with other waiting periods such as the lobbying requirements. PREVIOUS CO-SPONSORS: B.
