Subject: Organ & Tissue Donation Check-Off
 
In the near future, I plan on introducing legislation that amends the Tax Reform Code of 1971by extending the expiration date for the income tax check-off for the Organ and Tissue Donation Awareness Fund to January 1, 2018.

As you may know, the PA Department of Revenue provides a check off space for individuals on the income tax return form whereby an individual may voluntarily designate a contribution of any amount desired to the Memorial Organ and Tissue Donation Awareness Trust Fund.

The Trust Fund is used by the Department of Health for reasonable hospital and medical expenses, funeral expenses and incidental expenses incurred by the donor. The proceeds from the contributions may also be used to provide grants to certified organ procurement organizations and to assist the Project-Make-A-Choice program.
