Subject: | Collection of Deliquent Real Estate Taxes |
In the near future I plan to reintroduce former House Bill 1877 of the 2011-2012 legislative session. This legislation would amend the Real Estate Tax Sale Law to eliminate the payment of unnecessary commissions where taxes are collected directly by the school districts and municipalities. Current law requires that school districts as well as municipal governments to pay a 5% commission to their County for the collection of delinquent real estate taxes although the school districts and municipalities may be collecting the delinquent taxes themselves. The enactment of this legislation would eliminate this requirement thereby increasing revenue to school districts and municipalities--especially important at a time of significant financial challenges currently being experienced by these local governments. |
