Subject: | Resolution urging the PA Department of Corrections to consider establishing the FACT Program (Father And Children Together) at every Sate Correctional Institution in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania |
In the near future I will be introducing a resolution calling for the implementation of the FACT (Fathers And Children Together) program at our state and county correctional institutions. After some small technical changes to the resolution, I am re-circulating this co-sponsor memo. I first became aware of this program three years ago when I was contacted by the United Community Action Network and Latino American Cultural Exchange Organization. These two groups had piloted a program at SCI-Graterford that helped reconnect incarcerated fathers back into the lives of their children. This is important because statistically, children who have at least one incarcerated parent are seven times more likely to end up in prison. The goal of FACT is the education of incarcerated men through workshops structured to address the responsibilities of fatherhood and also to establish positive relationships with their children in effort to cut off the “cradle-to-prison” pipeline. Adding this service to our inmate population will be yet another weapon in the arsenal against recidivism. I hope you will join me as a co-sponsor of this resolution. If there are any questions, please contact Germaine Brown (gbrown@pahouse.net) via email or call my office in Harrisburg at 717-783-4090. |
