Subject: | “Pollinator Week” Resolution- *Please note this Resolution will be introduced Monday, June 17, 2013* |
In the near future, I will be introducing a resolution designating the week of June 20 to June 26, 2013, as “Pollinator Week” in Pennsylvania to recognize the important work of pollination and beekeepers in the production of many of the foods produced in the Commonwealth. In fact, pollination also plays a vital role in the health of our national forests and grasslands, which provide forage, fish, and wildlife, timber, water, mineral resources and recreational opportunities as well as enhanced economic development opportunities for communities. Bees, and therefore, beekeepers have an instrumental role in the pollination process. The Pennsylvania Beekeepers Association cooperatively works with the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, the Pennsylvania State University Cooperative Extension and the Delaware Valley College on processes to promote pollination and beekeeping. The resolution will honor those groups for that work and recognize the efforts to make the fourth week in June as a National Pollinator Week. I hope you will join me in sponsoring this resolution. Thanking you in advance. |
