Subject: | Property Tax Relief via Homestead Exclusion |
In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation providing property tax relief to Pennsylvania homeowners. My legislation will amend Act 1 of Special Session #1 of 2006 by granting school districts the option to provide further property tax relief through the homestead exclusion. In addition to the authority given to school districts currently, a school district will be allowed to increase in their earned income tax (EIT) rate for the purpose of providing homestead exclusions without seeking voter approval. A school district may still opt to utilize the voter referendum process if they so choose. In addition, my legislation will allow a school district to utilize any property tax reduction allocations received under the provisions of Act 1 for general operations if the school district’s millage rate equals zero. Please join me in cosponsoring this important piece of legislation for Pennsylvania homeowners. Thank you for your consideration! |
