Subject: | Resolution Declaring November 2013 as Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month in Pennsylvania |
In the near future, I will be introducing a resolution recognizing November 2013 as Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month in Pennsylvania. More than 38,000 will die as a result of pancreatic cancer, including 1,950 Pennsylvanians. Statistics show that Pancreatic Cancer is the fourth leading cause of cancer deaths in the United States, with the lowest survival rate of any major cancer. Statistics show that 75 % of pancreatic cancer patients will die within the first year of their diagnosis and 95 % of pancreatic cancer patients die within the first five years of diagnosis. There is no cure for pancreatic cancer, nor have there been any significant improvements in early detection or treatment methods in the last 25 years. Likewise, survival rates have remained low as only about 23% of patients with cancer of the pancreas are still living one year after diagnosis, and about 4% are still living five years after being diagnosed. Please join me in helping to raise awareness and attention to this deadly disease and offer support to those battling pancreatic cancer. |
