Subject: | November 2013 - Alpha-1 Screening Awareness Month in Pennsylvania |
During the week of October 20, 2013, I plan to introduce a House Resolution recognizing November 2013 as “Alpha-1 Screening Awareness Month” in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency, otherwise known as Alpha-1, is one of the most common hereditary disorders that affects the lungs and liver. There are an estimated 100,000 individuals throughout the nation affected by this disorder. Screening programs are important because less than 10 percent of individuals with Alpha-1 have been identified. I am hoping that by introducing this resolution it will raise more awareness across the state about this serious hereditary disorder. If you would like to join me in cosponsoring this resolution, please do so before Monday, October 21. Thank you for your interest and support. |
