Subject: | STEM Initiative Week in Pennsylvania |
In the near future, we plan to introduce a resolution naming the week of April 13, 2014, as Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics or “STEM,” Initiative Week in Pennsylvania. At its center, the STEM Education Coalition advances the important role a STEM education plays in our economic prosperity and maintaining our country’s competitive edge. Math and science are the engines of innovation. Fostering these foundational skills will produce a workforce well-suited to keeping our country at the forefront of innovation and technology, helping to continue America as a leader in science and technology. Consequently, the STEM Education Coalition seeks to educate policymakers on both state and federal levels in developing high-quality college and career standards in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. As a state, it is imperative that we improve the way students learn these core principles. We must invest in the future by encouraging business and education to work together in order to achieve this goal. Through this initiative we can help to ensure our children have brighter futures and greater employment opportunities. Promoting strong education in these fields not only aids our citizens in securing well-paying jobs, but promotes a strong and healthy economy in this Commonwealth and beyond. We hope you will join us in supporting the STEM Education Coalition by co-sponsoring this important resolution. |
