Subject: | Resolution for the Reunification of Ireland |
Americans of Irish descent have made many significant contributions to our state and nation. Many Americans have strong ties to the island of Ireland and, thus, honor and celebrate their heritage, during the month of March and throughout the year. In the near future, I plan to introduce a resolution that expresses support for the peaceful, democratic processes established in the Good Friday Agreement that allow for the reunification of Ireland and its people. Ireland was divided into the Irish Republic and Northern Ireland in the 1920s. Years of conflict ensued. The Good Friday Agreement, approved in 1998, affirms the right of the Irish people to pursue in a democratic manner national and political aspirations and creates a path to reunification. Please consider cosponsoring this timely resolution. |
