Subject: | Resolution Recognizing April 2014 as Child Identity Theft Awareness Month |
I am introducing a resolution recognizing April 2014 as Child Identity Theft Awareness Month in Pennsylvania. Unfortunately, identity theft affects not only adults, but children as well. Indeed, the Federal Trade Commission, in testimony before Congress, stated that child identity theft is especially pernicious because the theft may not be detected until the child becomes an adult and seeks employment or applies for a student or car loan. A study conducted by IDAnalytics found that over 140,000 children in the United States annually are victims of identity theft. According to the Federal Trade Commission, misuse of Social Security Numbers can occur in children as young as 14. Please consider joining me in co-sponsoring this resolution. |
