Subject: Sunshine Week in Pennsylvania Resolution
 
This week, I will be introducing a resolution designating March 16 through March 22, 2014, as Sunshine Week in Pennsylvania.

In March 2005, the American Society of News Editors (ASNE) launched a new national initiative to promote the importance of freedom of information and an open and transparent government, while simultaneously encouraging people to play an active role in government at all levels. Since then, ASNE’s Sunshine Week initiative has been celebrated each March to coincide with James Madison’s birthday on March 16 and the program has helped to create meaningful changes in government and in communities across the nation.

Join me in recognizing this non-partisan, non-profit initiative’s valiant effort to promote openness and accountability in government by co-sponsoring my resolution designating March 16 through March 22, 2014, as Sunshine Week in Pennsylvania.
