Subject: | Shaken Baby Syndrome Awareness Week |
I am introducing a resolution designating the week of April 20-26, 2014 as "Shaken Baby Syndrome Awareness Week" in Pennsylvania. According to DPW, in 2012 3,565 children were victims of abuse and neglect. The leading cause of death and disability among abused children under the age of 5 is Infant Abusive Head Trauma, including the inflicted trauma known as Shaken Baby Syndrome. Prevention and awareness is key in providing critically important information about Shaken Baby Syndrome to parents, caregivers, daycare workers, health care professionals and the general public. I encourage you to join me in sponsoring this resolution in order to encourage all Pennsylvanians to share the commitment of prevention, awareness, community support and partnerships to protect our smallest citizens from Shaken Baby Syndrome. |
