Subject: | Resolution Honoring the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary's 75th Anniversary |
I plan to introduce a resolution honoring the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary on their 75th Anniversary, which is June 23, 2014. This organization was originally formed as the Volunteer Reserve of the Coast Guard by an act of Congress in June 1939 and was renamed the Auxiliary following the creation of the formal Coast Guard Reserve by Congress in 1941. The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary has become the premier volunteer organization providing direct support and assistance to the Coast Guard and also provides 2 million hours of volunteer service to the Coast Guard and the boating population each year. Four of the first five Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotillas were formed in Philadelphia and southern New Jersey areas in 1940. The 75th Anniversary will be celebrated on the banks of the Delaware River, where the first Coast Guard activities took place in 1790. Please join me in honoring the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary on their 75th Anniversary. |
