In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation that will require public officials, public employees, and candidates for public office to disclose the existence of any current oil or natural gas lease agreements that they, or members of their immediate family, are party to. Under current law, the release of this information is only required if the reporting person receives an aggregate amount of $1,300 or more in royalties during the preceding calendar year as the result of a lease agreement. Disclosing this information to the public is necessary in order to strengthen governmental transparency. The additional public oversight provided by this bill will ensure that such financial agreements are not impacting the official conduct of a public official or public employee, or the potential conduct of a candidate for public office. Thank you for your consideration of this proposal. Please do not hesitate to contact my Harrisburg office should you require any further information. |
