Subject: | Resolution Honoring Women in the US Military |
Shortly, I will be introducing a resolution honoring women in the US military. Overall, women make up approximately 14.5% of all active duty military personnel. History shows us that women are an integral part of defending democracy and freedom. In 1822, the Pennsylvania General Assembly awarded the famous Molly Pitcher a pension of $40 per year in recognition of the services she rendered to the Continental Army. In 2008, Ann Dunwoody was the first woman to earn the rank of four-star general. The opportunities to serve our nation in the US military have increased for women since the American Revolution, but it is the same love of country that drove Molly Pitcher to carry water to soldiers during the Battle of Monmouth that drives women today to graduate from service academies and serve in front-line units. Please join me in cosponsoring this resolution that recognizes the bravery of the women in our military who selflessly serve the United States and our Commonwealth. |
