Subject: | Resolution Recognizing Light Welterweight Champion, Danny Garcia |
In the near future, I intend to introduce legislation to recognize Light Welterweight Champion Danny Garcia for his achievements in the sport of boxing and his contributions to the city of Philadelphia. Danny Garcia was born on March 20, 1988, in North Philadelphia, and raised in a Puerto Rican family. Garcia’s father, a former aspiring boxer, began coaching his son at a young age and eventually trained him in local Philadelphia boxing gyms. Garcia’s dedication in the gym led him to a number of victories in his amateur career including the 2005 Under 19 National Championship, the 2005 Tammer Tournament Championship, and the 2006 US National Championship. His impressive 107-13 record earned him a promotional contract from boxing legend, Oscar De la Hoya. As a professional fighter, Garcia was anxious to be the next great Puerto Rican boxer and bring pride to the sport, his family, and hometown. At age 24, Garcia has defeated the best fighters in his division and continues to impress the boxing world. The young fighter currently holds the World Boxing Council and World Boxing Association (Super) Light Welterweight Champion titles and remains undefeated with a professional record of 25 wins, 16 knockouts. Through his success, Garcia continually admits that his family remains the center of his life and provides his motivation and inspiration. Please join me in celebrating this local hero |
