Subject: | Early Voting - By Ballot |
In the near future, I intend to introduce legislation that would implement early voting in the Commonwealth. Currently, Pennsylvania is one of only 15 remaining states that still fail to offer any option of in-person early voting, no-excuse absentee ballot voting or all-mail voting. Early voting eases the practical difficulties many people face in attempting to exercise their constitutional right to vote, such as busy work schedules, illness and family obligations on the date of the election. My legislation would require availability of early voting sites for electors to cast a ballot for up to two weeks prior to an election. Election officials would have some flexibility in determining the specific times that these early voting sites would remain open; however, proper notification to the public of the locations of early voting sites and hours would still be required. If you have any questions, please contact my office at 787-5970. Thank you for your consideration. |
