Subject: | Direct Reimbursement of EMS Providers |
In the near future, I plan on re-introducing legislation that will ensure emergency service providers receive payment for the services they provide. This bill will require insurers that handle and approve claims in which emergency service entities incur an expense to directly reimburse the emergency service organization. Insurers would be exempt from this if the claimant has indicated that he or she has already reimbursed the emergency service provider. I have had many complaints from ambulance crews who never receive payment from their patients. This legislation will take the check out of the hands of those who wish to defraud these organizations. By requiring insurance companies to make payment directly to ambulance and EMS providers, we ensure they will be properly reimbursed for their time and hard work. This legislation was SB 1013 of the 2011-12 session. Previous cosponsors include: Brewster, Costa, Fontana, Waugh, Alloway, Farnese, Rafferty, Washington, Boscola, Brubaker, Ferlo and Browne. |
