Subject: | Agriculture Exclusion from Sales and Use Tax |
In the near future, I plan to reintroduce legislation intended to enhance the viability of agricultural operations in this Commonwealth, assist in preserving the farm family and the entire farm operation. My legislation proposes to exclude building materials used for the construction or repair of animal production buildings from our sales and use tax, thus lowering building costs and helping our producers to be more competitive and improve long-term viability. Many of our neighboring states already employ this exclusion, currently placing our farmers at a competitive disadvantage. It is estimated that the total tax liability would be less than $4 million annually. This proposal was Senate Bill 1149 of the 2011-2012 session and was co-sponsored by Senators BROWNE , D. WHITE , MENSCH , KASUNIC , YAW, ORIE , SOLOBAY , WASHINGTON , KITCHEN , BOSCOLA , SCHWANK, ALLOWAY and SMUCKER. If you have any questions regarding this legislation, please contact Stephanie Buchanan at 717-787-4420 or sbuchanan@pasen.gov. |
