Subject: | Autism Awareness Month - April 2013 |
In the near future, I will introduce a resolution designating April 2013 as “Autism Awareness Month”. Autism is a severely incapacitating, lifelong developmental disability resulting in significant impairment of an individual’s ability to learn, develop healthy interactive behaviors and understand verbal, nonverbal and reciprocal communication. Currently, 1 in 88 American children are living with an autism spectrum disorder, or ASD, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Autism is the fastest growing developmental disability, affecting more than two million individuals nationwide. |
