Subject: | Physician Loan Forgiveness |
In the very near future, I plan to re-introduce legislation (SB735) from last session to encourage medical students who attend a Pennsylvania medical school to stay in the Commonwealth after graduation. Pennsylvania has some of the best medical schools in the country, but unfortunately, many of the students leave PA for other states upon graduation. My bill will provide for loan forgiveness for each medical student who attends and graduates from a PA school, works as a doctor in PA (for up to 10 years) and volunteers at least 100 hours per year in the health care field. If these requirements are met, they would be eligible for loan forgiveness. The physician loan forgiveness program will derive its funding from tobacco settlement funds. |
