Subject: | Managing Digital Assets After Death |
In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation that would provide access to the executor of an estate to the deceased’s e-mail account. This is an effort to ease the burden of managing comprehensive digital assets of the deceased. Once the executor can access an e-mail account, they have the ability to access many other online accounts—airline mileage accounts, credit cards, social media, online banking, etc. This proposal also protects internet companies if they assist the executor acting in good faith, in an effort to fully encourage the e-mail provider to be as cooperative as possible in a difficult time for a grieving family. Please join me in co-sponsoring this important piece of legislation. If you have questions about this legislation, please call Max Flessner in my office at 717.787.5839 or e-mail mflessner@pasenate.com. |
