Subject: | National Nursing Home Week |
I plan to offer a resolution designating May 12 through 18, 2013, as National Nursing Home Week” in Pennsylvania. The men and women now residing in Pennsylvania's more than 700 nursing homes fought our wars, labored in our factories and planted the seeds that built our strong communities. More than 80,000 nursing home residents are themselves living history and a special treasure to our Commonwealth. The citizens of this Commonwealth residing in nursing homes have contributed immeasurably to the heritage, success and growth of our communities. The dedicated professionals who work in nursing homes provide critical services in the continuum of long-term care for many citizens of this Commonwealth. Nursing homes across this Commonwealth are holding events in observance of Nursing Home Week guided by this year's national theme of "Team Care". Nursing Home Week begins on Mother's Day, May 12, and ends on May 18, 2013. The resolution also encourages everyone throughout this Commonwealth to honor the elderly and disabled residents of nursing homes by visiting or volunteering at a local nursing home to bring good cheer to the residents and appreciation to the staff who care for our most vulnerable citizens on our behalf. If you are interested in cosponsoring this resolution, please do so by the close of business on Monday, May 6th. |
