Subject: | Juneteenth National Freedom Day |
In the near future, I plan to introduce a resolution recognizing June 19, 2013 as Juneteenth National Freedom Day in Pennsylvania. Juneteenth National Freedom Day commemorates the day in which the last of the slaves located in Galveston, Texas were informed of the Emancipation Proclamation. It is the oldest African-American holiday observance in the United States and is currently recognized as a holiday observance in over 41 states. I invite you to join me in this resolution. |
