Subject: | Pennsylvania Produce Month in this Commonwealth |
I will be reintroducing a resolution commemorating the month of August 2013, as “Pennsylvania Produce Month” in this Commonwealth. Over 4,300 farm families manage over 55,000 acres which produce over 200,000 tons of vegetables for fresh and processing use. Pennsylvania’s vegetable growers are national leaders in the production of pumpkins, snap beans, cantaloupes and fresh market sweet corn which contributes over $155 million to our Pennsylvania economy each and every year. Not only is produce a major part of our agriculture industry, but it a major component of our citizens nutrition and health delivering important vitamins, fibers and other dietary components that are essential to a healthy balanced diet. This resolution will pay tribute and recognition to the outstanding contributions of Pennsylvania’s vegetable growers to the historical, cultural, environmental and economic success of this Commonwealth. Last year, I introduced SR 338, co-sponsored by Senators Schwank, Folmer, Scarnati, Pileggi, Alloway, Baker, Browne, Brubaker, Dinniman, Earll, Erickson, Farnese, Ferlo, Fontana, Greenleaf, Hughes, Kasunic, Mensch, Pippy, Rafferty, Robbins, Solobay, Stack, Tartaglione, Ward, Waugh, D.
