Subject: Memo #29: "Juvenile Detention Centers Week" Resolution
 

I will be introducing a resolution declaring October 21-25, 2013 as Juvenile Detention Centers week throughout Pennsylvania. This resolution will be substantively similar to a resolution I introduced last year, SR 395.

Pennsylvania has 17 secure detention centers serving the Commonwealth. These facilities provide 808 beds statewide for approximately 15,000 admissions to juvenile detention each year. The resolution will recognize their ongoing protection of our communities and the care of youth in their custody.

Co-sponsors of this resolution last session included Senators: PILEGGI, WASHINGTON, D. WHITE, ERICKSON, DINNIMAN, RAFFERTY, BROWNE, GREENLEAF, COSTA, ALLOWAY, SOLOBAY, VULAKOVICH, BOSCOLA, FONTANA, STACK, WOZNIAK and BRUBAKER.
