Subject: Resolution Designating November as "COPD Awareness Month" in Pennsylvania
 

Please join me in sponsoring a resolution designating the month of November 2013 as
“COPD Awareness Month” in Pennsylvania.

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is an airflow obstruction that is associated mainly with emphysema and chronic bronchitis. It affects an estimated 655,000 Pennsylvania citizens and is the fourth leading cause of death in the Commonwealth. Although there is currently no cure for COPD, the best approach to preventing the disease and its considerable health, societal and mortality impacts lie in education, awareness and expanded delivery of detection and management protocols.
