Subject: | Co-Sponsorship of Resolution: Brachial Plexus Injury Awareness Month |
In the near future, I will be introducing a resolution recognizing the week of October 20-26, 2013 as Brachial Plexus Injury Awareness Week in Pennsylvania. Brachial plexus injuries affect the network of nerves that control the muscles in each arm from the shoulder through the fingertips and may result in paralysis of the arm. While a common complication that can often be prevented during childbirth, a brachial plexus injury can be caused by traumatic accidents, as well. As many individuals are unknowledgeable of this injury, they fail to recognize its symptoms and the needs of those affected by it. Health issues and obstacles resulting from such an injury pose unique challenges to individuals but can be treated and greatly improved with assistance from medical specialists and various therapy applications. During this week in October, it is my hope residents’ throughout the commonwealth will gain a better understanding of brachial plexus injuries in order to improve their diagnosis, treatment and prevention. At this time, please join me in recognizing October 20-26, 2013 as Brachial Plexus Injury Awareness Week in Pennsylvania. |
