Subject: | Memo #28 - Veteran Drug Access |
Please join me in introducing legislation that would amend the Miliatary and Veterans Code, Chapter 95, by extending pharmaceutical cost saving measures to veterans residing in assisted living residences and personal care homes. In 2008, the legislature enacted legislation permitting long-term care facilities to repackage medications received through the Veterans’ Administration so that residents could continue to benefit from the reduced costs. This change was necessary because the drugs purchased through the Veterans’ Administration were not in single unit doses as required by state law. This allowed veterans to enjoy the full extent of their pharmacy benefit while also maintaining adequate safety precautions within the facility. This legislation will extend similar cost saving opportunities to veterans residing in assisted living residences and personal care homes by allowing their medications to also be repackaged in the single unit doses. |
