Subject: | Resolution Designating February as “American Heart Month” |
Please join me in co-sponsoring a resolution to designate February 2014 as “American Heart Month” in Pennsylvania. In the past decade, cardiovascular disease accounted for one in three deaths in the nation, making this condition the Number 1 killer of both American men and women. While we have made great strides in reducing fatalities linked to cardiovascular disease, much more remains to be done to educate citizens about the warning signs of heart attack and stroke. During American Heart Month, the Heart Association encourages citizens to become trained in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and the use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs), to call 9-1-1 if symptoms strike, and to reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke through healthy eating and exercise. I welcome your support in these efforts to promote awareness and education about cardiovascular disease and to lower the incidence of heart-related deaths. Thank you. |
