Subject: | Resolution Marking March as American Red Cross Month |
Please join me in co-sponsoring a resolution designating March 2014 as “American Red Cross Month” in Pennsylvania. Today’s Red Cross is a volunteer-led humanitarian organization that provides relief to victims of disasters and helps our citizens prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies. In fiscal year 2013, 4,685 families were assisted statewide, which represents an increase of 1,334 from the prior year. More than 8,566 volunteers operate statewide. The Red Cross demonstrated its vital role in emergency response during the recent snowstorms and during Hurricane Sandy of October 2012, which claimed 10 lives in the Commonwealth alone and displaced more than 3,000 residents. The Red Cross also trains people in CPR, AEDs, first aid, and water safety, and provides hundreds of thousands of units of blood each year to victims in need. Please join me in saluting the 133-year-long history and exemplary service of the American Red Cross and its 44 Pennsylvania chapters. Thank you. |
