Subject: | Commemorating the 70th Anniversary of D-Day |
In the near future, I will be introducing legislation commemorating the 70th anniversary of D-Day on June 6, 2014. On June 6, 1944, 160,000 Allied troops landed along the coast of Normandy, France to liberate Europe and end the terrorism of Nazi Germany. More than 9,000 Allied soldiers were killed or wounded on that day in a final offensive to end Nazi atrocities. More than 5,000 ships and 13,000 aircraft supported the D-Day invasion. It is important that we commemorate this day not only for the thousands of lives lost but also as the beginning of a strategic offensive to ultimately defeat Nazi Germany. Please join me in sponsoring this important Resolution. |
