Subject: | Loyalty Day Resolution |
I invite you to join me in co-sponsoring a Senate Resolution designating May 1, 2014, as Loyalty Day in Pennsylvania. Loyalty Day was first known as “Americanization Day” and traces its roots to the time of the Russian Revolution in 1921. Over the years, members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) have staged rallies on May 1 to promote patriotism, attracting tens of thousands of devoted Americans. The rallies evolved into today’s Loyalty Day, which was first formally commemorated in 1959 under President Dwight D. Eisenhower to reaffirm our allegiance to the United States and to acknowledge this nation’s unique heritage and freedoms. The state resolution is being introduced on behalf of the Department of Pennsylvania, VFW, and their Ladies Auxiliary as they hold their annual Loyalty Day ceremony at the state Capitol, in grateful acknowledgment of those who gave everything to protect democracy and our way of life. Thank you for your consideration. |
