Senate of Pennsylvania
Session of 2013 - 2014 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: April 9, 2014 10:09 AM
From: Senator LeAnna M. Washington
To: All Senate members
Subject: AKA Day Resolution

In the near future, I will be introducing a resolution designating May 6, 2014 as “Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Day” in Pennsylvania.

Alpha Kappa Alpha (AKA) is the oldest Greek-lettered organization established by African American college-educated women. Founded at Howard University on January 15, 1908, this year, AKA will be celebrating its 106th year. AKA is dedicated to promoting peace and improving the quality of life for citizens worldwide.

Currently, AKA has a nucleus of 260,000 members in both graduate and undergraduate chapters. Membership is comprised of distinguished women who boast excellent academic records, proven leadership skills, and are involved in the global community through advocacy and service.

As a proud soror, I ask you to join me in celebrating AKA day in Pennsylvania by cosponsoring this resolution.
