In the near future, I will be introducing a resolution recognizing the month of May 2014 as Law Month in Pennsylvania. On May 1, 2014, the Pennsylvania Bar Association will launch its annual Law Day program, recognizing the importance of our court systems and professionals working within the field of law. This year, the theme of Law Day is American Democracy and the Rule of Law: Why Every Vote Matters. Not only does this theme honor the 50th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965, but also, it acknowledges the important role of voting rights in achieving and maintaining our democracy. During Law Month, the Pennsylvania Bar Association will be hosting activities throughout Pennsylvania in recognition of our legal and judicial systems, as well as in celebration of the Law Day theme. School students will be visited in their classrooms to learn about the history and significance of voter rights in this state and nation. Further, I encourage all residents to take part in community events throughout this month and to become aware of the critical work that remains in ensuring equal voting rights and voter access in Pennsylvania. Please join me in co-sponsoring this resolution. |
