Subject: | Medal of Honor Grove Day |
I will soon introduce a resolution designating May 20, 2014, as “Medal of Honor Grove Day” in Pennsylvania. The Freedoms Foundation’s Medal of Honor Grove is in Schuylkill Township, Chester County, and is the nation’s oldest memorial site dedicated to Medal of Honor recipients. As recently as four years ago, the site had fallen into disrepair and suffered from severely overgrown vegetation, fallen trees, and damaged and missing markers. But with the help of Medal of Honor recipients, veterans organizations, active-duty military personnel and more than one thousand local volunteers, the Medal of Honor Grove has been restored to a condition befitting its purpose. The Friends of the Medal of Honor Grove non-profit organization was created after the initial clean-up to ensure the permanent maintenance, improvement and enhancement of the Medal of Honor Grove, and the organization continues to fulfill that mission to this day. To honor the restoration of the Medal of Honor Grove and those who made it possible, my resolution designates May 20, 2014, as “Medal of Honor Grove Day” in Pennsylvania. |
