Subject: | Resolution – Fire Prevention Week 2014 |
In the near future, I will introduce a resolution designating October 5th-11th as “Fire Prevention Week 2014” in Pennsylvania. The theme is “Working Smoke Alarms Save Lives: Test Yours Every Month!” This year’s Fire Prevention Week theme focuses on motivating people to test their smoke alarms each month to make sure they are working properly. According to National Fire Protection Association statistics, having a working smoke alarm in the home cuts the risk of dying in a fire in half. On average, three out of five home fire deaths occur in fires where there are either no smoke alarms or no working smoke alarms. It is recommended that smoke alarms should be installed inside every bedroom, outside each sleeping area and on every level of the home, including the basement. Fire Prevention Week occurs annually in October during the week in which October 9th falls, commemorating the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. Each year, the National Fire Protection Association works in cooperation with partnering companies, organizations, and fire departments to promote Fire Prevention Week and its fire safety meetings throughout North America. Please join me in sponsoring this resolution. |
