Subject: | National Chemistry Week |
I am introducing a resolution declaring the week of October 19 through 25, 2014, as "National Chemistry Week" in Pennsylvania. National Chemistry Week is an annual event designated to raise awareness of the importance of chemistry in everyday life and 2014 marks the 27th anniversary of National Chemistry Week. The American Chemical Society coordinates National Chemistry Week each year and it is designed to be a community-based program that unites the local sections of the society with schools, businesses and individuals. More than 96% of all manufactured goods are directly touched by chemistry, making chemistry an essential part of every facet of this nation's economy. The business of chemistry is a significant contributor to the economy of this Commonwealth, employing nearly 47,000 people. Chemistry is intimately involved in the processing and preparation of food. This year’s theme “The Sweet Side of Chemistry–Candy”, will celebrate that involvement by showcasing the chemistry involved in candy and confections. The evolving science of chemistry is essential to this Commonwealth's industry and the well-being of this Commonwealth's citizens. |
