Subject: | Co-sponsor - Legislation to provide Early Voting in Primaries and Elections (Prior HB 1044) |
In the near future, I intend to re-introduce legislation to amend the Pennsylvania Election Code to provide early voting in primaries and elections. Given recent changes to the Pennsylvania Election Code, mainly the Voter ID law, I firmly believe that the General Assembly must make voting more accessible and convenient for our electors. In addition to providing more opportunity to citizens to practice their right to vote, I believe early voting will maximize elector turnout. My proposal would require each county board of elections to provide early voting beginning 30 days prior to the date of elections and primaries. Additionally, each board would be directed to designate sites and times for early voting, and provide each site with the same equipment that will be used on Election Day. This legislation will also prohibit the board from calculating votes until after the close of the polls. Please join me in providing more government service to our constituency and improving our voting system by co-sponsoring this legislation. |
