Subject: | Electric Vehicle Charging Corridor Tax Credit |
I am preparing to reintroduce legislation (HB 842) which would provide for a tax credit of up to 50% of the cost of an electric vehicle charging corridor. Gas stations must be compliant with all Pennsylvania tax obligations in order to apply for the tax credit. The purpose of my legislation is to incentivize consumers to purchase energy efficient and emission-free electric vehicles. Tax credits currently exist at the state and federal levels for the purchase of qualified electric vehicles of up to $3,000 and $7,500 respectively, depending on battery size. In addition, some states provide tax credits for the cost of electric vehicle charging stations. Ohio provides a credit of up to 80% and West Virginia provides tax credits of up to 50% of the installation cost for residential, commercial and publicly accessible charging stations. It may also be of interest to know that sales of electric vehicles are expanding in Pennsylvania. An initiative passed by the General Assembly in July 2014 (SB 1409) provides for the sales of high-end electric vehicles by the manufacturer (Telsa). I have attached an article on this subject for your review. Please join me in co-sponsoring this important “green” legislation. If you have any questions, please contact Kathy Seidl of my office at kseidl@pahouse.net or 787-4117. Previous co-sponsors of HB 842: COHEN, B. BOYLE, V.
