Subject: | Protecting Commonwealth Data (former HB 2041) |
In the near future, I will be re-introducing legislation – former House Bill 2041 – requiring Commonwealth employees conducting state business to use encryption to protect personal information transmitted over the Internet from being viewed or modified by a third party. Currently Pennsylvania law does not specifically require state employees transmitting sensitive information to use encryption, creating a security gap that could be exploited. This legislation is intended to protect Pennsylvanians by ensuring that state employees use care when transmitting social security numbers, driver’s license numbers, financial information, and other sensitive data. Please join me in co-sponsoring this important legislation to protect Commonwealth data. PREVIOUS COSPONSORS: READSHAW , BROWNLEE, KOTIK , MIRABITO, CALTAGIRONE , BOBACK , D.
