Subject: | Men's Health Month - June 2015 |
In the near future, I intend to introduce a resolution designating June, 2015 as “Men’s Health Month” in Pennsylvania. The purpose of “Men’s Health Month” is to heighten the awareness of preventable health problems and encourage early detection and treatment of disease among men and boys. Despite advances in medical technology and research, men continue to live an average of almost five years less than women. Men are at greater risk for death in every age group. Educating the public and health care providers about the importance of healthy lifestyle and early detection of male health problems will result in reducing rates of mortality from disease. Men who are educated about the value of preventive health will be more likely to participate in health screenings. Men’s Health Month is celebrated by hundreds of corporations, community organizations, hospitals, government agencies, and fraternal organizations. Please join me in co-sponsoring this Resolution to raise awareness among men, boys, and their families about the importance of positive health attitudes and preventive health practices. |
