Subject: | Taxing Pennsylvania Lottery Winnings |
In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation that will amend the Tax Reform Code of 1971 to remove the income tax exemption on Pennsylvania Lottery winnings. Pennsylvania currently taxes many forms of income, including casino winnings. However, along with California, we are one of only two states that do not tax lottery winnings. At a time when our Commonwealth faces significant budgetary challenges, I believe it is important to consider implementing a tax that nearly every other state already utilizes. It is estimated that imposing a tax on lottery winnings will bring an additional 15-20 million dollars to the state in personal income taxes. Please consider joining me in sponsoring this important legislation. |
