Subject: | Permanent extension of the Internet Tax Freedom Act and supporting H.R. No. 235 |
In the near future I plan to offer a resolution urging the Congress of the United States to support efforts to permanently extend the Internet Tax Freedom Act and supporting H.R. No. 235. Since the Internet Tax Freedom Act was first enacted in 1998, affordable Internet access, the World Wide Web and an effective electronic commerce system has been essential in promoting a nationwide economic environment that facilitates innovation, promotes efficiency, and empowers people to broadly share their ideas. Affordable Internet access promotes consumer access to job, education, healthcare, and entrepreneurial opportunities, regardless of race, income, or neighborhood. It further provides business owners, especially small business owners, with access to new markets, additional consumers, and an opportunity to compete in the global economy. Unfortunately, without Congressional action, this important Act is set to expire in October 2015. Recognizing this, Congressman Bob Goodlatte of Virginia has introduced H.R. No. 235, which would make permanent the Internet Tax Freedom Act, thus protecting Internet access from multiple and discriminatory taxes at the state and local level and continuing to promote economic growth. I ask that you support this effort by co-sponsoring my resolution urging Congress to pass Goodlatte’s legislation. Thank you in advance for your consideration. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact my Harrisburg office at 717-705-1925. |
