Subject: | Resolution-Employment Protection |
Recent activities by the United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) including court filings on behalf of the LGBT community and resolving alleged workplace discrimination, has brought heightened awareness to the need for protections in the workplace for the LGBT community. The EEOC, consistent with court rulings, interprets Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 statue’s sex discrimination provision as prohibiting discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity. Government agencies should protect the rights of all employees and my Resolution is calling on Governor Wolf to issue an Executive Order directing state agencies to follow the EEOC’s position prohibiting discrimination in the employment of individuals based on sexual orientation or gender identity. I ask that you join me by co-sponsoring my Resolution. |
