Subject: | Prostate Cancer Awareness Month |
In the near future, I will be introducing a resolution recognizing September 2015 as “Prostate Cancer Awareness Month” in Pennsylvania. Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed non-skin cancer and the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths among males in the United States, affecting 1 in 7 men. Each day, more than 500 men in the United States are diagnosed with prostate cancer. With early detection and screening, prostate cancer can often be treated successfully. More than 2 million men in the United States count themselves as prostate cancer survivors. Unfortunately, nearly half of all men do not realize that they are at risk of developing prostate cancer. Therefore, I am introducing this resolution to raise public awareness of the threat and causes of prostate cancer and the prevalence of this type of cancer in men. The National Cancer Institute estimates that, in 2015, more than 29,000 men will die of prostate cancer. I hope you join me in co-sponsoring this important resolution. Thank you for your interest and support. |
